‘LUCY WILL MAKE A MOVEMENT HALF A DOZEN TIMES BEFORE COMMITING, MOVING LIKE A BALLERINA’

George Shaw, Paradox curator Oi YOU! (2017)

In 2017 Lucy was invited to exhibit at Tauranga Art Gallery, New Zealand. Given free rein of the empty white space she painted her way around with only a pot of black ink and her home made brushes. Caught by Matthew Watkins (in the film below) it highlights Lucy’s ethos and overarching sensibilities when it comes to painting; with her use of indelible materials and one-take philosophy.

Following an instinctive motion, allowing no room for mistakes, simply guiding the brush.

‘IT IS A WELCOME DISCOVERY TO FIND THE FLUID CURVILINEAR GEOMETRIES OF LUCY MCLAUCHLAN ON THE STREET…’

Steven P. Harrington, editor Brooklyn Street Art (2018)

‘…the monochrome palette genuine, the forms bursting with vitality. By coaxing graphic rhythms from the natural world and expressing them with her own gestural physicality her work has the power to bring the constructed city alive. And it does, without pretense.’

For the last 20 years Lucy has painted murals across the globe, originating from a DIY approach with simply an innate desire to break up the rigid structures that surround us…For me it’s never just about the finished result. It’s also the memories & connections I’ve made along the way.
